Robert Henri occasionally comes back to his boyhood home to say hello.
The Holiday at the Henri program is a popular program for residents from around the region.
Regularly Scheduled Hours
From May 1 to October 31 the museum is open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. There are three ways to experience the museum. First, visitors can watch a 30-minute video telling about the life of Robert Henri, then they can do either a self-guided or guided tour of the museum and a tour of the art gallery. Many of those traveling on Interstate Route 80 usually just do the tour of the gallery because of time constraints. No matter, we will accommodate our visitors as best as possible.
Henri Arts Festival
The Museum annually sponsors the Henri Arts Festival to commemorate Henri's birthday (June 24, 1863) on the Saturday closest to the actual day. The program is designed to provide a platform for artists and artisans in the area to share their work in a fun and interactive situation. Robert Henri believed that art should be done for life's sake and not simply for art's sake. Our festival is different from other art shows and festivals because our focus is on the demonstration and creation of art, in addition to selling it. We welcome artists in all stages of experience and education to share in this celebration. There is also live entertainment and refreshments on hand during the day. Members of the museum staff give tours of the museum and gallery all day long.
Artists of the Month and Artists in Residence
The museum sponsors two programs annually to promote the work of regional artists. The Artist of the Month program begins in May and goes through to September and presents the work of an artist for a month to the visiting public including a reception. The museum is also host to two Artists in Residence annually and those artists stay in the Cozad area for two weeks and provide demonstrations and create new work which is sold in the museum's gift shop. A reception is held for each of them.
Holiday at the Henri
The museum hosts an annual holiday celebration the first weekend of December. This includes a reception on Friday and a special event including the display of the work of area artists. The museum's house tour takes place on the following Saturday and usually includes three houses decorated for Christmas in and around Cozad.
Beginning in 2020 the museum is planning to host events periodically that relate to Henri and his legacy. Announcements of those programs will be made on our Facebook page, on-line calendar, digital newsletter, and media releases.
