Robert Henri Museum and Art Gallery

One of America's greatest artists and art instructors

Welcome to the Robert Henri Museum and Art Gallery located in Cozad, Nebraska. Robert Henri (formerly Robert Henry Cozad) was one of America's greatest artists and one of its most important art instructors. In our environmentally controlled gallery, built in 2014, you will find the largest collection of Henri’s work on display than anywhere else in the world. We have a major exhibit entitled Through My Own Language: Robert Henri and His Portraits, Landscapes and Sketches which includes fifteen of his paintings that we either own and have been loaned to us by a patron or other museums, forty-three of his sketches along with personal items including letters and props. For 2021 we have borrowed two Henris from other institutions which will be on display until October 31. One, Normandie Farm House, is on loan from the Museum of Nebraska Art, and the other, The Beach at Far Rockaway has been borrowed from the collection of Paulsen, Inc. The Beach at Far Rockaway is considered to be one of the finest landscapes of the early twentieth century. There are also examples of the work of some of his students including Margery Ryerson, Marjorie Organ and Ernest Fiene.

Next to the gallery is the Robert Henri Museum which is located in the boyhood home of Henri and includes a number of family pieces on display. It was restored to its 1879-1880  appearance in the mid-1980s. The museum contains exhibits, period furnished rooms, a gallery and a gift shop. It is also where many of the museum's programs take place including our receptions for our Artists in Residence, Artists of the Month, the Robert Henri Arts Festival, and our  Holiday at the Henri program along with privately sponsored events. The museum has an introductory exhibit entitled Robert Henri: From the 100th Meridian to International Fame and it reveals the important Nebraska legacy of the famed artist along with his family and local history.

Our web page provides information about our programs, activities, collection, and archives. You can keep up to date about our museum's regular activities by going to our Facebook page or signing up for our digital newsletter. You can find about both by going to our Join and Support pages. If you are looking for more information on our national conference that we will sponsoring in October 2021 you can go to our Conference page which is being regularly updated with the latest info. We look forward to visiting with you at our museum and sharing our wonderful collection with you.
